Going “green” with my searches

I’m always looking at the “greenest” possible ways of running my business and today I stumbled accross a “green” search engine: http://ecosia.org/
You can check out the video on their website, but basically what Ecosia does, is they give 80% of the advertising profits to the WWF Rainforst program and in addition, they run their servers pureley on Green Energy.
I use the internet extensively, and have read on more than one occasion that the Internet actually pollutes more that commercial airlines in a whole year, and this has bothered me extensively. You can check this article out for example: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2009/05/what-is-the-environmental-impact-of-the-internet.php
I don’t know about you, but I prefer that my business helps saving the rainforest by using “green” electricity rather than making Google shareholders even richer all while worsening my footprint!
Because, no matter what Google says on their website (http://www.google.com/corporate/green/datacenters/ and http://www.google.com/corporate/green/footprint.html) they are far from green. For one, they only mention that they “are looking into” and “thinking about” solutions… and don’t demonstrate anywhere that they “have done” something to become carbon neutral, but in addition to that, there is no mention of using green electricity to power their operation, which could be a really easy thing to put in place.
The only thing that bothers me a bit, is that Ecosia get their data from Yahoo and Bing, who are probably not greener than Google, but my thinking is that at least, by using Ecosia, some of this is going to be offset!
So from now on, deelee photography is going to be an ecosia user
Have a nice day!
